In Excel 2007, click the Office button and then click Excel Options. In the left pane, click Advanced. In the Display section, check Comments And Indicators under the For Cells With Comments option. In excel for Mac 2016, when I hover my mouse over an excel comment flag the comment does not appear. I have to 'show comment' and then 'hide comment' to see any I have already checked the appropriate box in settings called 'indicators only, and comments on rollover'. It is not a settings issue.
I've seen this in other threads, but they were closed as folks supposedly didn't have this issue once Excel versions upgraded. However, I'm not getting comments to show when I hover, even though I've got the preferences set right. I can adjust the preferences to show all comments (works) and hide all indicators and comments (works), but not the show indicator and show comment upon over. I'm using Excel for Mac version 16.17, and macOS 10.13.6.
I tried saving the file as a new name as one comments suggested, and it didn't work. Hi davetuit, Thanks for reporting the issue. Currently, we received other reports of the same issue in the same version. I'd like to share a summary for the issue here which will benefit other community members. Symptoms: The comments will not show up when you hover over mouse to the cells in Excel 2016 for mac 16.17 version. Assessment: The issue can be reproduced on our side in Excel 2016 version 16.17. We have reported it to our related team for further investigation.
Workaround: Download and use Version 16.16 of Excel 2016 for Mac as a temporary workaround: Besides, we found that the issue does not occur in the insider fast version 16.18 (180911). You may join insider ( The insider version is best for Insiders who want to use the very earliest builds to identify issues and provide feedback about new features still in development. Insider is ideal for those who don't mind the bit of risk involved in using unsupported builds ) and get the update now or wait for it to release to production. More Information: For affected customers to easily identify the information here, this thread will be closed.
If we have any update, we will update here: Please subscribe this primary thread and monitor more updates. (click the ellipsis next to I have the same question and click Subscribe) Best regards, Tina.
